FishChoice.com was launched in 2008 to help seafood buyers find companies selling products that meet their sustainability commitments. For over 15 years, businesses selling seafood products could create a profile and list their products online, and FishChoice.com would ensure that sustainability information – including both ratings and certifications – shared about the product were accurate and up to date. Before its closure, FishChoice.com had over 600 businesses and 6500 products listed, with over 10,000 registered users utilizing that information to make informed sourcing decisions. The site’s My Assessment Tool served as the backbone of many seafood programs that helped restaurants and supply chain companies understand the sustainability status of their products and shift sourcing toward more sustainable sources. It was even used by zoos and aquariums across the United States to assess the sustainability of the seafood in their animals’ diets.
While FishChoice.com helped change the way businesses sourced seafood, FishChoice.com closed in 2025 due to the continued evolution of the seafood industry and changes in the funding landscape for seafood-focused nonprofits, and to ensure our organization continues to invest our resources where needed to create the biggest impact.
FishChoice has held valuable partnerships with the world's leading ratings, certifications, and traceability providers over the years, in addition to business collaborators looking to promote and assess their seafood's sustainability.
