Since FishChoice.com launched in 2008, we have helped more than 600 businesses buy and sell sustainable seafood products. Over the years, 6,500 products have been listed on the site, making it easier for buyers to find products that meet their sustainability commitments. The site’s My Assessments Tool served as the backbone of many seafood programs that helped restaurants and supply chain companies understand the sustainability status of their products and shift sourcing toward more sustainable sources.
We’re proud of the progress FishChoice.com has helped the seafood industry make. Now sustainability is part of doing business in the seafood sector and certified, rated, and improving products are easier to find for many species. Alongside this evolution, however, there have been changes in the funding landscape that supports our organization. With these shifts, FishChoice has had to reassess where we were investing our resources to have the greatest impact into the future.
As a result, we made the decision to shutter FishChoice.com in November 2024 and informed key partners and businesses listed on the site at that time. While we have wound down the programmatic efforts behind the site over the last several months, the FishChoice.com website will transition to one focused on our organization toward the end of September. At that time, much of the current information, all of the business profiles, and other features like the My Assessments Tool will no longer be accessible.
FishChoice will continue to focus on FisheryProgress and our efforts to address social responsibility in seafood, while exploring new initiatives that allow FishChoice to use our expertise in developing innovative online tools to meet the evolving needs of the sustainable seafood movement.
Our newsletter, the FishChoice Current, will pivot to organizational-focused content, in which we will share updates on staff, where you can expect to find us at upcoming conferences and events, new projects as they arise, and more.
