Wixter Market
✕Established in 2015 in Chicago, Illinois, Wixter Market is a seafood wholesaler and market dedicated to providing its customers an unparalleled seafood purchasing experience. Wixter Market is committed to educating their buyers on how to best prepare seafood and the nutritional benefits of their products, all the while providing an array of products and unique recipes their customers are sure to enjoy.
By maintaining relationships with the producers of all the seafood products they sell, and Wixter Market is able to offer full traceability for any of its products, including its tinned product line La Brujula, an exclusive line of tinned seafood products from Galicia, Cantabria, and the Basque Country of Spain.
Wixter Market is the exclusive importer of Jose Gourmet, a fast-growing company from Lisbon, Portugal. Based off of one of the oldest and most prestigious trade marks, Jose Gourmet offers the finest selection of tinned seafood from Portugal's rich marine culture. Olive oil from the oldest trees in Portugal, Firewater from Lourinhã, and sustainably wild-caught fish from the local seas create a product based in tradition. Jose Gourmet has won two stars from the Great Taste Award in the UK for small mackerel in olive oil. The importer is also branded with the Great Taste logo, ensuring consumers they are receiving the finest, high-quality products. Working with local Portuguese artists, the packaging artwork for Jose Gourmet products is a beautiful representation of the hand-crafted tradition, and quality of seafood, found in every tin.
By immediately flash freezing the seafood after it is harvested or caught, Wixter Market is able to preserve nutrient density and flavor — removing the variability that may come with fresh products. This type of processing allows products to have as much time as possible to find a plate while maintaining the highest quality. In an effort to decrease its carbon footprint, Wixter Market promotes local species as they are in season and maintains a ‘zero waste’ policy by freezing or tinning each product at the source. The company's tinned products have a greatly extended shelf life, allowing for products to make its way to consumers without quality loss.
