Contact Information

Freshwater Farms of Ohio is a vertically integrated hatchery, grow-out, processing, marketing, and retail operation. Established in 1983, the farm is family owned and operated by three generations of Smith family and their experienced staff in Ohio’s Urbana region. They host Ohio’s largest indoor fish hatchery, and are the only producers of trout products in the state. The fish are raised locally in clean water, fed natural feed, and their farm is host to many other aquatic creatures including an alligator named Fluffy. Guests and customers are welcome to participate with feeding the trout year-round. Freshwater Farms of Ohio also offers a variety of other products and services, such as giant freshwater prawns, fish stocking, water quality management, and aquaculture consulting.

The fish at Freshwater Farms are raised both indoors and outdoors year round in the same barns originally on the farm’s property. Freshwater Farms of Ohio is part of the Ohio Aquaculture Association, which promotes the development of aquaculture in Ohio through the exchange of ideas and aquaculture technology. Alongside this expansion, one of the goals at Freshwater Farms is to educate the public and counteract the negative portrayal of fish farming in the media.
