Shellfish has been a part of Julia Rendall's life for the past 25 years. She and her former husband, Bill, raised three boys by digging clams around Cortes Island. When she and her partners bought the Orchard Bay site on Waddington Channel - a 55 acre deep water lease - she jokingly referred to it as their 1375 acre oyster ranch (55 acres X 25 clusters deep = 1375 farmable acres) She and her partner, Marcel, own several rafts at Bee Islets, a beach lease in the Gorge Harbor, and their deep water site at Orchard Bay. They pride themselves in supplying premium quality oysters, and have recently ventured into growing scallops with her son, Ben.
