Established in 1977, Austral Fisheries is one of Australia’s largest integrated commercial fishing companies, with interests in both deep-sea fishing and at-sea prawning. They are recognized for their responsible fishing practices and continuous efforts in maintaining environmentally friendly and sustainable methods. Austral Fisheries’ deep-sea fishing activities involve the operation of three longline vessels, including a dual-purpose longline-trawl vessel, while their prawning component utilizes a fleet of 10 prawn trawlers in the Northern Prawn Fishery off the coast of northern Australia. The toothfish and prawn fisheries Austral Fisheries operates in are independently certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), with the Northern Prawn Fishery becoming the first tropical prawn fishery to receive MSC certification in 2012.

Glacier 51 Toothfish were recently introduced as a part of Austral Fisheries' new product line. These toothfish produce a large, white-fleshed fillet that meets both MSC sustainability credentials. They are fit to prepare in both dry and moist heat, and their high fat and Omega-3 content make Glacier 51 Toothfish a good choice for a variety of cuisines. Austral Fisheries' Skull Island tiger prawns are Australia's biggest prawns, measuring up to 10 inches in length. Caught, packed, and snap frozen at sea from Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria, Skull Island tiger prawns maintain their size, color, and flavor until they are ready to eat.

Austral Fisheries is certified as carbon neutral under the Australian Government Carbon Neutral Program and is a member of the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia. Their sustainability commitment includes: catching and selling Australian wild-caught fishery products which have been certified by the Australian Government Department of the Environment as meeting the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries guidelines; supporting MSC-certified products and fisheries; selling Australian aquaculture fisheries products from operators who follow the Commonwealth, State, or Territory environmental and sustainable legislative requirements; selling of imported aquaculture products that meet all the environmental and sustainable requirements from their Country of Origin; and limiting carbon emissions. Austral Fisheries has won multiple awards from 1988-2015 for positive environmental performance, high-quality product, and agribusiness.
