Alaskans Own is a select brand of seafood for discerning customers wanting the best tasting, healthiest, high-quality seafood available now and for generations to come. By purchasing Alaskans Own, customers are investing in the future of wild Alaskan fisheries and in the artisanal fishing communities, whose caring practices are vital to ocean health. They are a non-profit, community supported fishery (CSF) part of the Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association (ALFA). The Association is an alliance of over 150 small-boat fishing families committed to good fisheries policy and research supporting resource conservation. Alaskans Own strives to reconnect the dots of the seafood supply chain, pursuing innovative solutions to conserving marine resources and maintaining a localized supply chain.

All of the profits from Alaskans Own go towards supporting fishery conservation research, initiatives to keep fishing access rights local, and other efforts to ensure the health and longevity of Alaskan fisheries. Their fishermen are part of the Fishery Conservation Network (FCN), created to involve fishermen in research and conservation projects, such as increasing fuel efficiency, avoiding sperm whales, and creating detailed maps of the ocean bottom to better avoid non-target fish. Alaskans Own™ seafood products are harvested by independent fishermen whose commitment to conservation is supported by the Alaska Sustainable Fisheries Trust, an innovative endeavor that combines the best in business with the best in conservation. The Trust responds to intensifying pressure on wild fisheries and fishing families that threaten Alaska’s world class resources and coastal communities, from industrial fishing practices and inadequate regulation, to a lack of financing. With funding from Alaskans Own, the Trust invests in coastal fishermen committed to sustainable harvesting practices and allows consumers to support this crucial work, benefitting coastal fishermen, their communities and marine resources.
