Based in San Diego, Chesapeake Fish has been processing the finest fresh and frozen seafood from California and Mexico for almost 100 years. Now owned by Santa Monica Seafood, who is an acting member of the National Fisheries Institute, the California Restaurant Association, California Fisheries & Seafood Institute, and Ocean Trust, Chesapeake Fish Co. has broadened their product reach and sustainability goals. The company buys fish from California fishermen who unload at the Chesapeake dock in San Diego harbor. Chesapeake is also the largest U.S. buyer of seafood from the 1,000-mile Baja Peninsula, where the company runs trucks which buy directly from fishermen.
Under Santa Monica Seafood, Chesapeake Fish Co. subscribes to the Responsible Sourcing Vendor Program, which applies a percentage of annual seafood purchases towards financially supporting fishery and food safety and education programs internationally, as well as qualifying and verifying suppliers.
